My Google Scholar profile, which may well be more up-to-date than this list of papers, is here. I'm more than happy to send over copies of these papers in case you cannot access them, just drop me a line on b.j.balmford [at] exeter.ac.uk!

Other service

In general, I am keen to get involved in activities which improve the research environment. I was the lead organiser of the LEEPin2019 conference (June 2019), which brought together some of the best environmental economists in the world. Alongside parallel and poster sessions (which included talks from Ian Bateman, Richard Carson, Ben Groom [then LSE], Roger von Haefen, Nick Hanley, Céline Nauges,  and Christian Vossler), there were keynote talks from Brett Day, Paul Ferraro, Cathy Kling, Georgina Mace and Steve Polasky.

With Ben Groom, I organised BIOECON 2022, hosted in Exeter, with plenary talks from Eyal Frank and Rachael Garrett, as well as pre-conference trips for participants to Dartmoor and to look for beavers.

I was also a co-organiser for an invite-only conference organised jointly with HM Treasury (April 2019) on how to implement The Green Book guidance on accounting for natural capital.

From 2020-2022 I, along with initially Michela Faccioli and then Frankie Cho, organised the LEEPout webinar series which builds on the success of LEEPin. We were lucky enough to host numerous excellent speakers, including Gretchen Daily, Antonio Bento, Kelsey Jack, Mar Reguant and Thomas Sterner. Currently, I am part of the committee which organises bi-weekly environmental seminars for the wider department.

In-house, I set-up and organised a monthly Journal Club, in which we discussed a recent publication or working paper that took our interest. Our focus was on the environment and empirical papers more broadly, which meant pretty diverse reading, including the Cohn et al paper on lost wallets, Brodeur et al's Methods Matter, and Assunção et al's paper using the changes-in-changes approach to look at the impact of the black-listing policy on Amazonian deforestation.
